Q&A with Menea

Which musician would you like to play with?

Yebba, James Francis, Lianne La Havas, Bruno Major, Eloise

Which musician has influenced you the most?

Vocally, Yebba, but there are so so many others.

What can you teach me better on your instrument than any other teacher?

How to connect physically to the music in order to create the most effortless, effective sound.

How did you learn to play your instrument?

I learned by taking the amazing lessons from my teachers and directors and combining them with my own exploration of each aspect of my craft.

What equipment do you play on today?

I play on a Taylor acoustic guitar, an electric piano at home, and my the same voice I’ve had since the beginning :)

Which personal trait helped you the most while practicing?

The enjoyment of all things music and the desire to be good at what I do.

What does your instrument have that others don't?

The voice is an inherently unique thing :)

How do you handle children?

I am patient, kind, and find ways to read what kind of learners they are so that I can cater my lessons to their individual needs.

What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?

My first live show in Bulgaria was definitely one experience as a musician that I will never forget. The club was amazing and full of loved ones and people I didn’t know. The sound was amazing and I got to feature an hour of my original music. It was special.

What was the biggest stage you played on?

With my choir, we have sang in venues such as Powell Hall in St. louis, the Fox Theater, and even Carnegie Hall one year. By myself, the biggest would probably have to be the Berklee Performance Center in Boston.

Which record would you take with you to the desert island?

Such a hard question. I’d have to say Cerulean by Ken Yates though.

Besides music, what else is important in your life?

My friends and family of course, but also finding time to connect with nature, read, exercise, and travel!!!

Other Music-related work / goals

Currently working on my bands artist project as well as my own personal project - recording and releasing songs. Hoping to go on tour in the next few years with the band and just release and play as much music as possible. Down the line, it’s a huge dream of mine to go back to school, get a phd, and teach music at a university somewhere as well :)

Accolades

I participated in many Berklee showcases throughout my time there, which were all very fun. Recorded and released an EP through my own artist project right after covid, and have released one single with the band as well.

Personal Interests

I am a big reader and recent podcast listener. I love to hike and go for long walks, as well as travel and explore anywhere. Big foodie too - I cook a lot and host dinners all of the time! When I’m bored I love to do puzzles, sudoku, paint (although I’m horrible at it) and do other mindless activities. More than anything, though, I love to just spend time with my friends and family.

We have expert teachers who teach in all styles of music; experts in Jazz, Classical, Pop, and more.
