About Misha

Misha Bigos’ musical journey has taken him from neighborhood basement recitals to austere college practice rooms to cruise ships far up the Amazon River to countless theater stages, dive bars, jazz clubs, and recording studios, and into the classrooms and lives of the hundreds of students who he has been fortunate to teach.

Misha moved to Los Angeles in 2012 to earn his masters degree in jazz piano from the University of Southern California. Since then he has made his living as a freelance musician, playing with some of the best musicians in Los Angeles and recording in dozens of studios and performing hundreds of gigs all over the country.

Since 2015 his primary teaching position has been at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), a non-profit after-school program in Koreatown, Los Angeles. In 2019 and 2020 he served as a visiting faculty member for the LONGY School of Music MAT Program at Bard College, where he taught piano to graduate students earning their masters in music education and provided performance coaching for their ensembles.

Misha strives to make lessons fun, relaxed, and exploratory. He tries to instill the fundamentals (scales, chords, theory, technique) while leaving room to pursue a student's unique tastes and interests. The goal is to give students the skills to discover music for themselves.

Misha is currently recording his first album as a singer-songwriter.
