Other musical projects include the Bay Area based psychedelic pop band Waterstrider, and the Berkeley based dark pop band Decant. Van has a BM in Classical Guitar Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied with David Tanenbaum, and an MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College where he studied with John Bischoff, Laetitia Sonami, and James Fei.

A word from Van:

No matter who you are, I believe that developing a musical or artistic practice enlivens the spirit and deepens empathy. My role as a teacher is to improve the lives of my students by helping them cultivate their own unique artistic expression, and to broaden their musical horizons by encouraging self-discovery, exploration, and discipline.
