As a teacher Zev seeks to nurture a passion that keeps students engaged and inspired to continue their journey of musical discovery.


Zev enjoys teaches drums of all styles to students of any age. As a professional drummer he records as well as performs regularly in Los Angeles as well as in San Francisco Bay Area where he was born. He received a Bachelors of Music from USC.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, in 2017 Zev graduated from the University of California with a degree in Jazz Performance (Drums), having studied primarily with Peter Erskine, Roy McCurdy and Aaron Serfaty. During his undergraduate years, Zev was chosen to perform as a member of the USC Honors Combo and USC Composer’s Collective. That collective won first place in the competition and performed at the 2017 Monterey Jazz Festival.

Zev has performed at several notable venues in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Davies Symphony Hall, SFJazz Center, and Yoshi’s. Currently based in Los Angeles, Zev performs at numerous venues, which include BlueWhale, the Troubadour, and El Cid as well as many private engagements. Zev has performed with Kristin Chenoweth, Sabrina Claudio, Greg Osby, Regina Carter, Joe Lovano, David Binney, Louis Cole and many others.

What can you teach me better on your instrument than any other teacher?

How to find your own path, to learn to be the best version of yourself that you can be!

How did you learn to play your instrument?

I started taking lessons when I was 5, but I really started to learn when I began playing with other people a lot.

What equipment do you play on today?

I play on many different drums and cymbals including a vintage Pearl, a Monteneri custom and a Sonor drum set with Ludwig, Tama, Pearl, and Premier Snares.

Which personal trait helped you the most while practicing?

Patience is so important.

What does your instrument have that others don't?

You get to hit drums!

How do you handle children?

Well!

What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?

Its so hard to think of just one. Getting to meet and know many of my drumming heros in Los Angeles has been incredible. Also being a part of such a amazing community of musicians is so inspiring!

What was the biggest stage you played on?

It could be the Wiltern in Los Angeles, or playing a live drum solo on E News if that counts.

Which record would you take with you to the desert island?

An audiobook of outdoor survival strategies :)

Besides music, what else is important in your life?

I love nature, dogs, people, food and all forms of art!
